Caitlin Womble
Caitlin started in 2010 at Marker One Marina as ‘low man’ on the totem poll at a multi-million dollar marina. Her first job was to pressure wash the paint and grime out of the boaters bathrooms (the ceilings too), and there are a lot of them. She did it and came out – paint and what-not all in her hair, smiling and said, ‘What’s next?”. From that moment on they knew she was a hard worker and up to any challenge they had. Over the next five years she mastered every job at the marina – running the fuel dock, washing boats, draining the heads of onboard bathrooms ( a nasty proposition ) and any other job they could find to try and run her off. Soon they ran out of things to challenge her with outside and promoted her to the front desk. While handing out Nutty Buddies and listing it on the children’s parents monthly bill is important, she grew. She took over billing, payroll, foreclosures, tax liens, presentations, traveling to boat conferences and she did it all extremely well. And she is attractive, accurate and friendly.
Eventually the marina was purchased by an out of state company. They promptly discerned that she was the backbone, not the managers. And they fired everyone down to her. Each week she would teach them how to do everything, a little at a time. For months, upon her first day back after a day or two off, she spent the day correcting their mistakes. She orchestrated and implemented changes to make the accounting feather in with the rest of the company. And she grew their business.
Shortly thereafter, they hired a General Manager, who was out of his depth. Soon after that misstep, they appointed Caitlin the Director of the Marina – at the age of 21. I’ve forgotten to mention she was paying her way through college towards a degree in Hospitality. And she still is. Work 50-60 hours a week and take Junior – Senior level classes, few can do this.
Over the past two years she has written goals and achieved or exceeded them, including adding a service/modification division. Now three revenue streams are growing and the marina is profitable.
Caitlin doesn’t simply direct from on high, she runs the place with radios, telephones a staff of young bucks that respect her and work hard for her – because she knows how do it, can do it herself and demands it be done right.
So, if you need a place to land on your journey for nourishment and fuel, need repairs to your vessel, need a place to keep your boat – wet slip, high and dry or yard stacked – Call and ask for Caitlin.
Everyone knows her and she will shoot straight with you on your options. In the photo above, what is marked as Dunedin Beach is actually a Florida State Park called Honeymoon Island. Within minutes from marker 1, you can be in the Gulf of Mexico, down the intracoastal or chilling on Three Rooker sand bar toasting the sunset.
